Job Description
Job Summary:
Provides specialized nursing care to oncology patients, supporting their treatment and recovery process within a dedicated oncology department. Supervises nursing staff and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care and safety.
Responsibilities:
- Assess outpatients receiving radiation therapy, recording vital signs, pain levels, and medication history.
- Document patient information following Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) guidelines.
- Evaluate patients for fall risk, allergies, and communicate findings to physicians and team members.
- Monitor patients weekly for signs of radiation therapy side effects and report changes to physicians.
- Prepare patient charts for initial assessments and follow-up visits, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Assist physicians with procedures such as Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy, and diagnostic examinations.
Qualifications:
- Possess a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor.
- Have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher preferred.
- Prefer oncology nursing experience within a radiation therapy environment.
- Obtain and maintain Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) or Chemotherapy Immunotherapy (CHIM).
- Demonstrate strong clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
