Job Description
Job Summary:
The Labor and Delivery Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families throughout the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. This role involves managing perinatal emergencies, supervising ancillary staff, and educating patients in a dynamic clinical setting.
Responsibilities:
- Assess physical and psychosocial status of patients, considering age, culture, and specific needs.
- Develop and implement individualized, multidisciplinary care plans in collaboration with healthcare team members.
- Manage perinatal emergencies such as crash C-sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia with clinical judgment.
- Monitor fetal and maternal well-being, fetal heart rate, amniotic fluid, and vaginal bleeding, recognizing abnormal conditions.
- Assist with epidural catheter placement, monitor during medication administration, and support pain management strategies.
- Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum care, and newborn care, ensuring cultural sensitivity and learning readiness.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license in the state of practice with a minimum of two years recent Labor & Delivery experience.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications from approved vendors.
- Completion of Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course, AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification preferred.
- Proven ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments and manage obstetric emergencies effectively.
- Demonstrated experience with EPIC electronic health records system.
- Ability to work rotating day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), with no call required.
