Job Description
Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist provides specialized respiratory care services within a hospital setting, exercising clinical judgment to diagnose and treat patients with respiratory illnesses. The role involves independently administering tests, treatments, and life support measures across all age groups, including critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
Responsibilities:
- Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation and life support systems based on physicians’ orders.
- Perform emergency procedures such as intubation, arterial punctures, and ventilator adjustments to ensure patient stability.
- Assess patient conditions through clinical evaluations, review of lab results, and imaging, then recommend appropriate therapies.
- Administer respiratory treatments, including medication delivery, chest physiotherapy, and oxygen therapy, ensuring patient cooperation and safety.
- Operate pulmonary function testing and pulse oximetry equipment to gather diagnostic data for physician review.
- Educate patients and families regarding therapy procedures, disease management, and equipment use.
Qualifications:
- Currently licensed as a Respiratory Therapist with Hawaii RT licenses.
- Certified or registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT or CRTT).
- Demonstrate proficiency in airway management, ventilator settings, and emergency interventions.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot respiratory equipment and perform laboratory procedures.
- Strong assessment skills to evaluate patient needs and modify treatment plans accordingly.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
