Job Description
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the perioperative team, the PAT RN provides specialized preoperative and postoperative care to surgical patients, ensuring safety, thorough assessments, and patient education throughout the surgical continuum.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive assessments of surgical patients pre- and post-operation, including evaluating patient understanding of procedures.
- Deliver competent clinical care during direct patient interactions, supporting team-based care delivery.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of patient care, education, and progress in compliance with guidelines.
- Demonstrate professionalism by adhering to policies, procedures, and contributing to ongoing professional growth.
- Foster patient and family satisfaction through courteous, respectful communication and confidentiality adherence.
- Follow safety protocols, including patient identification, safe transfer techniques, and body mechanics, aligning with national safety standards.
- Understand and apply knowledge of surgical conditions, procedures, and equipment relevant to perioperative care.
- Assume responsibility for directing patient care based on changing conditions, prioritizing needs accordingly.
- Educate patients and families pre- and post-surgery about procedures and recovery expectations, ensuring active participation.
- Support timely completion of patient testing, reviewing pre-admission testing orders for completeness and appropriateness.
Qualifications:
- Valid RN license required.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Current BLS certification required.
- CNOR certification preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, with Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
