Job Description
Job Summary: The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum stages, including emergency interventions and assisting with cesarean sections. This role involves supervising ancillary staff and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal maternal and fetal outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial needs, considering age, cultural background, and specific circumstances.
- Develop and implement individualized, multidisciplinary care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Manage perinatal emergencies such as crash C-sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia with clinical judgment.
- Monitor fetal and maternal well-being, including fetal heart rate, amniotic fluid, vaginal bleeding, and abnormalities.
- Administer and support pain management techniques, including epidural care and alternative pain relief options.
- Educate patients and families about perinatal processes, procedures, and post-delivery care.
Qualifications:
- Hold a current RN license in the state of practice.
- Possess at least two years of recent Labor & Delivery experience.
- Maintain current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certifications.
- Demonstrate proficiency with fetal monitoring and perinatal emergency protocols.
- Have experience with EPIC electronic health records.
- Be certified in neonatal resuscitation and fetal monitoring per facility requirements.
