Job Description
Job Summary:
The Labor and Delivery Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients before, during, and after childbirth, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and baby. This role involves managing perinatal emergencies and supporting families through the childbirth process.
Responsibilities:
- Assess physical and psychosocial conditions of patients, considering age, cultural, and emotional factors.
- Develop and implement multidisciplinary care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Manage obstetric emergencies such as crash C-sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia with clinical judgment and proficiency.
- Monitor fetal and maternal status continuously, including fetal heart rate and amniotic fluid, and respond to abnormalities.
- Assist with pain management techniques, including epidural placement and alternative pain control methods.
- Educate patients and families on perinatal care, postpartum recovery, and neonatal care.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of two years recent experience in labor and delivery nursing.
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring.
- Proven ability to manage perinatal emergencies and perform fetal and maternal assessments.
- Demonstrated competency in pain management and epidural assistance.
