Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse in the CVICU is a registered professional nurse responsible for delivering safe, high-quality care to cardiac and post-open heart patients. They collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes through evidence-based nursing practices.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care by applying nursing theories, research, and standards within the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
• Assess and evaluate patients’ needs, using critical thinking to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to coordinate care and promote understanding.
• Educate patients and caregivers on post-operative care, discharge planning, and health maintenance.
• Demonstrate clinical proficiency in cardiac care procedures, including managing lines, drains, and airway devices.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, safety protocols, and institutional review processes.

Qualifications:

• Valid NYS RN license and BLS certification required.
• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in a cardiac or open-heart ICU setting.
• Experience with EPIC electronic health records highly preferred.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; relevant experience may suffice with active enrollment in a BSN program.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-census environment with weekends required.
