Job Description

Job Summary:
The PreOp Registered Nurse provides comprehensive perioperative care to patients before surgery, ensuring their safety, comfort, and preparation for procedures. They coordinate with healthcare teams to facilitate smooth surgical workflows and deliver patient-centered, culturally sensitive services.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess patients’ health status and verify documentation to ensure readiness for surgery.
  • Prepare patients by explaining procedures, administering medications, and supporting their emotional needs.
  • Coordinate perioperative workflow, including equipment checks, safety checklists, and communication among surgical staff.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and responses, recognizing changes that require intervention and escalating care as needed.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and execute individualized care plans and ensure seamless patient care transitions.

Qualifications:

  • Hold an active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
  • Possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Demonstrate clinical competency within 3 months and maintain it every 3 years.
  • Have an associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Show ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and collaborate effectively with healthcare teams.
