Job Description

Job Summary:
The Pre-Op/PACU RN provides specialized nursing care to patients before and after surgical, procedural, and interventional cases. This role involves comprehensive assessment, close patient monitoring, medication administration, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to promote patient safety and optimal recovery.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, review medical history, allergies, labs, and consents to ensure readiness.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by establishing IV lines, administering pre-medications, and educating them and families about the process.
  • Monitor patients during post-anesthesia and post-procedure recovery, managing airway, vitals, and access sites.
  • Safely administer medications and infusions, including high-alert drugs, following proper verification and titration protocols.
  • Perform blood and blood product transfusions, ensuring correct identification, monitoring for reactions, and accurate documentation.
  • Maintain safety standards, manage vascular access, collect diagnostic specimens, and interpret cardiovascular monitoring data.

Qualifications:

  • Current, unrestricted RN license with at least 1 year of perioperative or PACU experience preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Proficient in medication administration, blood transfusions, and infusion management.
  • Demonstrate strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and ability to respond rapidly in emergent situations.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and educate patients and families.
