Job Description
Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician III – Prescription Prior Authorization Technician (PAT) is responsible for facilitating prior authorization requests in a high-volume outpatient pharmacy setting. Working under minimal supervision, this role involves accurate data entry, communication with pharmacy stakeholders, and maintaining compliance with department protocols to support efficient medication authorization processes.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and complete the appropriate pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) prior authorization forms for each request.
- Accurately transcribe prescription details, including prescriber and drug information, from EMR into PBM-specific forms.
- Review patient office visits and clinical encounters within EMR to gather necessary information for authorization submissions.
- Submit the minimum required number of prior authorizations within designated time frames and follow up to obtain determinations.
- Communicate effectively with outpatient pharmacies, clinical staff, and providers regarding the status of authorization requests.
- Maintain detailed records of all prior authorization activities, ensuring compliance with department standards.
Qualifications:
- Hold a valid CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) credential.
- Demonstrate a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess at least 3 years of pharmacy technician experience in a high-volume environment.
- Have 1 or more years of prior authorization experience, preferably in a pharmacy setting.
- Exhibit proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Maintain current knowledge of ICD10 codes, medications, and healthcare policies related to prior authorizations.
