Job Summary:

The Medical Surgical RN is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a flexible, overflow unit that supports ED boarder patients. The role requires proficiency in phlebotomy and IV placement, with a focus on patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, and maintaining safety protocols.

Responsibilities:

• Perform phlebotomy and establish IV access for patient treatments.
• Monitor and record vital signs accurately, communicating any patient status changes to the RN or MD.
• Support patient care activities including bathing, mouth care, and ambulation.
• Administer medications such as ear drops, eye drops, IM, SQ, and oxygen therapy, following safety and procedural standards.
• Manage feeding tube care, Foley catheter insertion, and NG/G-tube procedures.
• Communicate effectively using SBAR for transfers and ED patient updates.

Qualifications:

• Hold a valid NY RN license in good standing.
• Possess at least 1 year of recent Medical-Surgical experience.
• Demonstrate proficiency in EPIC charting and blood glucose testing.
• Be flexible with scheduling; ability to work 12-hour day shifts.
• Exhibit competence in vital sign monitoring, patient assessments, and clinical procedures.
• Have phlebotomy experience and IV placement skills as mandatory requirements.
