Job Summary:

The Tech provides continuous EKG/ECG monitoring by analyzing rhythm strips and interpreting dysrhythmias to support timely clinical decisions. The role includes performing ECGs, troubleshooting monitoring equipment, and responding appropriately to monitor alarms, including life-threatening rhythm changes.

Responsibilities:

• Perform electrocardiograms in multiple clinical settings with correct electrode placement.
• Monitor, analyze, and document cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias using ECG strip interpretation.
• Identify potentially life-threatening rhythm changes and escalate immediately, including initiation of codes when indicated.
• Communicate clearly with charge nurses, co-workers, and physicians regarding patient status and rhythm interpretation.
• Troubleshoot monitoring problems and ensure safe, effective operation of monitoring and medical equipment.
• Ensure accurate entry and verification of orders and timely retrieval of relevant laboratory results for clinical review.

Qualifications:

• Hold a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the Red Cross.
• Complete a Dysrhythmia Course.
• Demonstrate strong proficiency with the MS Office Suite for documentation and communication.
• Show ability to meet documentation standards and organizational policies consistently.
• Ability to interpret ECG rhythms accurately and respond appropriately to monitor alarms.
