Job Details

TactStaff Edu is seeking a compassionate and experienced Functional Academic Teacher to support students in an elementary school setting for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a full-time, onsite position working with students who require specialized academic, behavioral, and functional support.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with significant learning and developmental needs and be comfortable providing individualized instruction in a highly supported special education environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver individualized instruction aligned with student IEPs
• Teach functional academics, including reading, writing, math, communication, and daily living skills
• Modify and adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and student progress
• Provide structured classroom management and positive behavioral support
• Support students with autism, developmental disabilities, and other significant learning needs
• Collaborate with paraeducators, related service providers, general education teachers, administrators, and families
• Maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring
• Participate in IEP meetings and other student support meetings
• Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
• Utilize differentiated instruction and evidence-based strategies to promote student engagement and independence

Qualifications

• Active Washington State teaching license/certification required
• Special Education endorsement preferred/required based on district assignment requirements
• Bachelor's degree required
• Master's degree preferred
• Previous experience in a special education, functional academics, or self-contained classroom strongly preferred
• Experience supporting students with significant disabilities, autism, developmental disabilities, or behavioral needs preferred
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of an IEP team

Washington's certification system uses specific endorsements and assignment rules for special education teachers, so candidates must hold an appropriate Washington credential for the assignment.
