The Joint Commission has been accrediting healthcare organizations since 1951. It’s high standards assure the delivery of high-quality, safe patient care.

The mission of The Joint Commission is to continuously improve healthcare for the public by evaluating healthcare organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value.

The Joint Commission is the recognized global leader for healthcare accreditation. It is an independent, non-for-profit organization. It offers unbiased assessment of quality achievement in patient care and safety.

Many types of healthcare organizations are eligible for Joint Commission accreditation. These include hospitals, doctor’s offices, nursing homes, office-based surgery centers, behavioral health treatment facilities, and providers of home care services.

Accredited Programs and services within a given healthcare organization or community can also seek certification. Like accreditation, certification requires an evaluation by The Joint Commission. It covers compliance with the standards and verifies improvement activities. After earning certification, organizations receive The Gold Seal of Approval®, an internationally recognized mark of quality.
